Dyslexia Awareness Week is definitely upon us and I’m going to try and do a blog every day about the activities that I’ve done and what is coming up the rest of the week.
I’m always keen to spread awareness of dyslexia whether that is locally, nationally or to a small group of teachers.
Yesterday 3rd October, was a very exciting day for me as I spent the morning with BBC Radio Leicester and the presenter Lukwesa, I’m Chairman of the Leicestershire Dyslexia Association and a severely dyslexic adult and I spoke to her about my experiences and what dyslexia is.If you would like to listen to it, please click here.
After that busy morning I then drove to Walsall where I’d been invited to the Walsall Rushall Inclusion Service to their Celebrating Dyslexia Awareness event, I gave them a real insight into what dyslexia is like for me and also demonstrated some Nessy products including Dyslexia Training, Dyslexia Quest and Nessy Reading and Spelling. This was a fantastic event and I really enjoyed being there and hope to go back soon.
As a typical dyslexic I took more stuff than I needed and of course what did I do, I left my iPad in the classroom and had to go and find someone to get it for me, typical forgetful moment!
So today, Tuesday 4th October I will be at BBC Radio Leicester’s Open Centre from 12:30 – 3:30 with the Leicestershire Dyslexia Associations display stand and you may even hear me back on the radio.
Tonight with the SEND Group we are running a webinar presented by Prof Steve Chinn titled “Maths Explained and Understood”. This is where Steve will introduce his Maths Explained videos and how we can start supporting children with maths problems. Click here to find out more.
Tomorrow, Wednesday 5th October I will be speaking at an event at Wandsworth Civic Suite at their “Dyslexia Awareness information Day”, click here to find out more details and I hope to see you there.
There is still time you to join me on Thursday, 6th October for the Leicestershire Dyslexia Associations event “Dyslexia is not just about reading”. 9:30 till 12:30, click here for more information.
